Sometimes you just need a night to stay in and cuddle on the couch with your pup. During the winter months, it can be especially healing to lie back with a bowl of popcorn (dogs can eat it too) and watch a dog-friendly film on Netflix!

Here are some of my top picks for a fun movie night with Fido:

Homeward Bound (1993)

This film is a family-friendly classic is great for both dog and cat lovers. The story centers around three household pets —  an American Bulldog, a Golden Retriever and a Himalayan Cat — go on a journey after they think they’ve been left behind by their owners who’ve gone on vacation. The adventurous tale gives you a glimpse of the American West and its rocky frontiers. There are suspenseful, funny and very loving moments between the pets and their owners. It will give you the right feeling when cuddling with your dog while watching it!

The Fox and the Hound (1981)

The Disney classic is a good Valentine’s Day tear jerker. The loving tale that represents true friendship between two friends from different backgrounds. The tale tackles the subject of prejudice in society, but in a lighthearted story that is perfect for all ages. It’s a great film to watch with your whole family!

Marley & Me (2008)

If you’re a pet parent, you’ll surely find this movie very emotional. There are some great, LOL moments that will show the viewer the true meaning of love and what it means to have a pet. Be sure to have a box of tissues on hand!

Air Bud (1997)

Some of the best dog-centered films were made in the 1990s and Air Bud was definitely one of them! The story was based on “Air Buddy” a homeless Golden Retriever who rescues a boy struggling with the death of his father. The film spawned some sequels and it became one of the most successful franchises in Disney history. This film tells the story where a dog can play basketball and helps a teenager find his welcoming place in his high school’s basketball team.

Are there any dog-friendly films that you think should be on this list?  With so many animal-friendly films on Netflix, we’re sure there’s a ton that will intrigue both you and your dog. Don’t forget to top off your evening in with some doggie treats or pet-friendly ice cream! Happy watching!
